Got a question about our process? Find out here

What resolution should my artworks be?

When printing, the optimum print resolution for digital printers is 300 PPI. Blurring and pixelization will occur if a file is designed with a resolution less than 300 PPI. You should not, however, design with a resolution more than 300 PPI. There will be no change in print quality as far as the eye can perceive. It will also significantly increase the size of your file (increasing file upload/transfer time).

We usually suggest printing 300 PPI drawings, however we understand that you may not have the capacity to modify your designs. If you are unable to print your files at 300 PPI, you will need to take certain steps to guarantee that a lesser resolution will work for you.

Before you begin creating your file, we suggest that you set the resolution in your graphics editor (for example, Photoshop) to 300 PPI. Blurring/pixelation will still occur if the resolution is increased after the start.

Do you check the artworks before printing?

Before printing, our staff double-checks all of the work. If we run into any issues with the files, we’ll let you know and show you how to alter the format. Please keep in mind that color and size mode conversions will be done automatically without any input from you.

We examine the drawings throughout the analysis.

– if the files are in one of the acceptable file types (PDF, JPG, TIFF, EPS or PS).
– if the file provided is greyscale (only if you have purchased a color print)
– if the file is the proper size (otherwise, we will scale your work to the required size, however this may result in a loss in quality). There will be no extra bleeding added to the procedure).
– if drill lines have been defined
– if the correct fonts have been included in the file

Why do my artworks require bleed?

All files should have a 2mm bleed on either side to guarantee that there are no white spots on the printed output. This implies that your design should always be 2mm bigger than the actual print format (including pictures and graphics). Failure to do so may result in minor differences, such as white margins. Place typefaces and important components of your design at least 3mm away from the final format (not counting bleeding) and avoid using edges as edges in layouts to guarantee that they are visible.

Optional: If providing data in an open format for printing, the bleed should be 4mm on each side (e.g., A4 size including bleed should be 301214mm). – Please prepare a file with 3mm bleed on either side if submitting files for presentation folders, banners, monthly calendars, packaging, or any other promotional technology items. – Envelopes should have a 1mm bleed on both sides. The elastic frames made of cloth must be bled 15mm.

Please refer to our artwork instructions if you need more information.

What filetypes do you accept for artwork?

JPG, PDF, EPS, TIFF, AI, PSD and PS (PostScript) are among the file types that may be uploaded

Ensure that your PDF file is saved in normal PDF/X format (PDF/X3 or PDF/X1a) straight from your graphics software. When saving artworks, select the “1.3 compatibility” option to prevent issues with layers and transparencies during the printing process.

If you’re transmitting TIFF files, keep the number of layers to a minimum.

Please do not utilize pre-separated data from DCS EPS to prevent color variations or issues with the printed picture.

Are you an environmentally friendly printer?

We certainly are! We provide the most comprehensive selection of soy ink-based eco-friendly printing goods in New York, including recycled business cards, brochures, presentation folders, sales sheets, stationery, catalogs, flyers, calendars, and more. Our regular stock is now recycled paper.

The printing sector has a bad reputation for environmental stewardship, with excessive use of water and energy, paper waste, and the usage of volatile chemicals that result in hazardous waste in the past. One of New York Print’s main priorities is environmental protection, and we try to put our world first.

Here’s how Gorilla Printing works on its footprint

– Using soy-based inks as standard
– Using recycled paper stocks as standard
– Printing techniques that decrease paper use, such as duplex printing
– Modern equipment that consume less energy
– Elimination of hazardous and volatile compounds
– We recycle our printing plates, press blankets, bottles, cans, and containers.
– We recycle obsolete equipment and computer components.

Discover More about LED Light Box

Backlit decals with a translucent background are ideal for tenant or private lightboxes. They are digitally printed on translucent vinyl film and are meant to glow brightly when illuminated by a light box or other light source.

What Are Backlit Decals and How Do They Work?

With a personalised backlit decal, you can make your sign glow at all hours of the day and night (light box not included). Backlit decals are made of 3.5 mil adhesive vinyl and are meant to endure heat from light sources, as well as indoor and outdoor conditions. You can easily attach backlit decals to windows, light box sign panels, or other smooth translucent surfaces for a wonderful light up effect thanks to their flexible nature.

You’ll receive a wonderful looking sign that will endure as long as you need it if you mount it on acrylic, glass, or moulded plastic. It’s simple to remove a backlit decal and replace it with another. Your backlit sign will look great day or night because it was printed with the latest printing technology and UV inks.

How to Care for Your Product

We recommend cleaning your backlit vinyl decals with a moist, non-abrasive cloth or rag on a regular basis to extend their life. Wipe the decal clean with a soft cloth to remove any dirt or dust. Do not power wash the decal, as this may cause it to rip or come loose from the sign’s surface. The light source behind the backlit screen may also be ruined by power washing. Simply peel your illuminated decal away from the surface if you need to change or remove it. A sharp edge or a heat source, such as a blow dryer, may be required in some circumstances. Clean the surface with any basic window cleaner after removing the decal.

What is the meaning of a backlit sign? What kind of material is it composed of?

A backlit sign is one that is illuminated from behind by a light source. The sign will be semi-translucent to allow light to shine through and illuminate any text that may be written on it.

The most popular setup is a light box, which consists of a light source enclosed in a structure that allows a stiff piece of material to be placed or pushed into it in some fashion. These roadside advertisements for small businesses are common. The sign can be printed on a milky white hard material (think acrylic) or mounted to the light box or setup as a vinyl overlay.

The vinyl overlay or decal approach is used for our illuminated sign. Your sign will be printed on adhesive vinyl and affixed to a translucent stiff material for a light box, window, or other surface with a light source behind it. FLEXcon LITEcal is the name of the material, which is a durable material that provides light diffusion and, as a result, beautiful signs.

All of the questions on this page are about the backlit film we sell, not the alternative of printing on a translucent rigid sign or another type of signage.

What is the thickness of the illuminated signs?

The actual backlit film is 3.5 mil (.0035 inches) thick, which is about equivalent to a few sheets of regular printer paper.

Is it possible to have my illuminated sign cut to a unique or specific shape? Are there any limitations?

Yes! Square/Rectangle, Rounded Corners (14″ or 1″ radius), Circle/Oval, Custom, or Custom with Border are some of the shape options available for your backlit decal.

You may either upload a custom shape to our design tool or have us produce a custom shape for your sign based on your design using the Custom Shape option (formerly known as Contour Cut). The Custom with Border shape option (formerly known as Halo Cut) is identical to the Custom shape option, except it will leave a small border around the edge of your artwork.

What sizes do you have available? What are your maximum and minimum sizes?

For the most part, we can make any size you want, but due to the size of our industrial printers, your illuminated sign can’t be much smaller than 8″x8.” Your illuminated sign, on the other hand, cannot be larger than 60″x400″.

My design is really intricate and has a lot of colors in it. Will my costs rise as a result of this?

It doesn’t matter how detailed or many colors your design is since we print all of our signs in full color. The final cost of your sign is unaffected by the design. Options chosen, number, size of your sign, and any related taxes and shipping are all factors that may influence cost.

What color does your bespoke backlit sign come in by default?

Our illuminated vinyl material comes in a white default color. The sign can be printed in any color. If you want it to be completely black, simply use a black backdrop in your design. Any other color would have the same effect.

Is it feasible to have a double-sided illuminated sign?

No. A double-sided sign is not conceivable due to the material and how it is designed to function. The material has a light behind it and can only be viewed from one direction. You’ll need two of our backlit decals if your light box has two sides.

How long will your illuminated signage last?

Our custom illuminated signage have a 3+ year average lifespan. Installation, maintenance, and usage will all affect the lifespan. The most important aspect in determining the lifespan of your sign is its use. Signs that are used outside and are constantly exposed to the weather will last less time. This is especially true in more extreme climates. Nonetheless, we’ve seen these indications last for many years even in these conditions.

Will my backlit sign be ruined by exposure to the sun or the elements?

All of our signs are printed with UV ink, which should ensure that your sign remains brilliant for the duration of its life. Any sign will eventually begin to show its age, but we’re convinced that you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how long your sign looks brand new.

Will the light source have any effect on the sign?

Your sign should not be harmed or damaged in any way by the light source. While it’s conventional sense to avoid placing a sign so close to a light source because of the heat, your backlit sign was created specifically for this purpose. The visual impact of the light source is the only way it can affect your sign. Regardless, it is your design, not the light, that will have the greatest aesthetic impact.

Is there a difference between backlit film and backlit overlay?

Backlit film and backlit overlays are frequently used interchangeably. Backlit overlays are sometimes non-adhesive, which is the only distinction. Both, however, are meant to express the same functionality as a sign that is used in conjunction with an existing light source and/or hard piece of material.

Will my backlit sign harm or degrade the window or surface on which it is placed?

The option to change out the sign according to your demands is a big benefit of using a backlit film. This could be due to a rebranding or a change of tenants who are utilising the current light box. Whatever the cause, your backlit sign should readily peel away from the surface. There should be no damage to the physical surface as a result of this. If a sharp edge is utilised to help removal, the only injury that could occur is due to misuse or human error.

Is it possible to use my illuminated sign outside? Is there any place where I can’t display my sign?

Yes, our illuminated signage can be utilised both indoors and outside. The only limitation to employing your illuminated signs is your capacity to glue them to the desired surface. Porous and/or non-smooth surfaces will not work with your illuminated sign. Assuming you choose a non-porous, smooth surface (usually glass or acrylic), you should be able to use the sign in a variety of ways depending on the light source.

What are the most common applications for backlit signs?

The most common application of a backlit sign is with a roadside light box. During the day and night, several businesses use these to advertise to passing vehicles. Storefront signage, which may detail store hours and advertise discounts and sales, is another typical application. Other interior applications include illuminated signs such as directional, exit, and safety signage that must be visible regardless of whether the building is lit or dark. Hospitals, hotels, shopping malls (the advertisements that line the walls and walkways), bus stops, and other darker public transportation locations such as subways, city centres, movie theatres, and retail establishments of all kinds all employ backlit signs.

When the backlit sign becomes wet, what happens? Will the sign be ruined as a result of this?

No, our illuminated signs are designed to be used both indoors and out. Rain and other elements will not destroy the sign, but they will shorten its lifespan depending on the frequency and intensity of the weather.

Will the transparency of my window/storefront be affected by the backlit sign?

Both yes and no. The semi-translucent backlit sign allows the design to be viewed with a light source behind it. Unless there is a light source behind it, a backlit sign that covers your entire storefront will appear opaque. This will be very dependent on your specific arrangement as well as where and how you intend to use the illuminated sign.

Is it possible for me to put my backlit sign on the inside of my storefront/window and have it visible from the street?

No. Backlit signs, like opaque window decals, can’t be reverse printed due to the substance used, unlike numerous of our decals that can. The graphic will be printed on the material’s front.

Is it possible to remove and relocate my backlit sign?

No. It will not work to remove the real backlit film and reposition it on the same light box or a new one. It is not intended for the backlit film to be reused.

Of course, if the film is placed to a rigid component and both of them are being moved without the decal being removed from the hard material, it is feasible. You merely need to make sure that the new light box or placement is compliant with the rigid piece of material’s existing specs.

How do I put my backlit sign together? Is there a backing for my illuminated sign? How do I get rid of it?

It’s simple to put your illuminated sign together. Remove the thin covering protecting the adhesive side of the backlit sign after ensuring that the surface where it will be affixed has been cleaned and allowed to air dry. Then, liberally spray both the adhesive side of the decal and the surface you wish to attach it on with a spray bottle filled with water and a few drops of baby soap. Use a squeegee to carefully push out any excess water or air from under the decal. You should be able to peel the squeegee back up for any necessary adjusting before utilising it. Spraying a lot of water on the decal and moving slowly and carefully are the most critical aspects of a clean, professional application.

Is it necessary for more than one person to complete the installation?

We recommend that at least two individuals install the illuminated sign for larger signs. This will guarantee that the sign does not adhere to itself prior to installation and that it may be peeled away quickly to avoid huge air bubbles or pockets. One person can concentrate on applying the sign and removing air bubbles, while the other keeps the sign from sticking to the surface before it should.

What is the best way to keep my backlit sign(s)?

The nature of your illuminated sign is semi-permanent. As a result, your illuminated sign can be rolled or stored flat in a cool, dry spot prior to installation. Nothing substantial should be placed on top of the sign if it is rolled for storage. When you do this and fold the sign, you’ll have permanent wrinkles.

The illuminated sign is a one-time-use only device, thus no storage is required after installation.

What is the best way to clean my backlit sign(s)?

A non-abrasive, wet towel or rag can be used to clean your backlit sign on a regular basis. Simply wipe it down with a soft cloth to remove any built-up dirt or grime. This can often be done at the same time as any other light source maintenance.

What’s the best way to get rid of my illuminated sign? Will it leave a tremendous mess and a lot of residue behind?

The vast majority of illuminated signs can be easily ripped away. A sharp edge or heat (such as a blow dryer) may be required in some circumstances to help remove signs that have been in place for a long time. Finally, any remaining glue can be removed with a regular window clean and rag.

Is it possible to wash my window while the backlit sign is still in place?

Yes, as previously said, regular cleaning will help your backlit sign maintain its vibrancy while in use. However, power washers should be avoided in order to preserve the sign’s adhesive properties.
